100% Soybean Wax Candles

Squire Boone Village presents 100% soybean wax candles. These candles are petroleum free, made in the U.S.A. from soybeans grown by farmers in America's Midwest, then handcrafted and poured at Squire Boone Village in Southern Indiana. Made with 100% Cotton Wick or 100% Wood Wicks, no metal in the center of the wick. The fragrances have been developed exclusively for Squire Boone Village using our own, highly fragranced, proprietary formulations.

Advantages of using 100% soybean wax candles:

  1. No toxic chemicals released when burning. Researchers at South Carolina State University studied petroleum-based and vegetable-source candles to determine their emissions. They let candles from different manufacturers burn for up to six hours in a small box (8 inches x 8 inches x 26 inches), and then collected and analyzed substances released into the air.

They found that paraffin-based candles -- the most popular kind -- emitted toxic chemicals like toluene and benzene. Soybean candles did not, according to the study, which was presented at the American Chemical Society meeting in Washington, D.C.

  2. Supports American Farmers. It takes 6 pounds of soybeans to make 1 pound of soybean wax. Buying 100% soybean wax candles creates strong demand for the soybeans American farmers grow. American consumers buy over 1 billion pounds of candle wax each year. USA farmers do not currently grow enough soybeans to supply candle makers if all candles were made of soybean wax in the USA. American farmers currently grow 150 billion pounds of soybeans a year. It would take 6 trillion pounds of soybeans in order to make all candles consumed in USA out of soybean wax.

  3. Decreases our dependence on foreign oil and keeps our dollars at home. It takes one 306 pound barrel of crude oil to make about 6.1 pounds of petroleum wax. At our current usage of over 1 billion pounds of candle wax a year it takes over 160 million barrels of crude oil to make all the candle wax needed. The United States currently imports approximately 10 million barrels of crude oil every day.

  4. Longer burn time. Soybean wax has a lower melting point and therefore burns up to 50% longer than wax refined from crude oil. Soybean wax liquifies across the surface of the container as the candle burns causing better fragrance disbursement.

  5. Better for our environment. Soybeans are a renewable resource unlike petroleum which is a non-renewable resource. Soybean wax is made 100% of soybeans grown in the heartland of America by American farmers. No drilling, no oil spills, no pollution, no depleting of the Earth's resources.
